Review:
I’d been postponing watching this new Black Panther movie for a few reasons… the first one being not seeing Boseman in the title role… he is greatly missed, he was the Panther… the other was the length of the movie: 2h43 minutes is long! And Phase 4 of the MCU hasn’t been the best phase so far… but I will never miss a Marvel movie (or any superhero movie for that matter) so the time was right…
It was a good movie, I’ll admit it… it wasn’t boring though a bit lengthy (I think it could cut down at least 20-30 minutes of this movie) but i won’t complain, we got a lot of movie and some great action ànd Namor is probably thé best thing of this movie!
There’s a great dynamic as well between the actors… Bassett was ruling the screen… the introduction of Riri Williams as a young tech savy (and a new kind of Tony Stark) wünderkind promises to be interesting for the future (and upcoming serie Ironheart), Letitia Wright (Shuri) had a very good development in the movie and the joking parts with Okoye in the beginning had me laughing my ass off…
We saw great costumes and I loved the music (although the soundtrack was a bit atypical for a Marvel movie)…
But the best things were the two kingdoms: Wakanda and Talokan, mixing the African and Mayan cultures but at the same time drawing parallels between both kingdoms…
And Namor has to come back in the MCU!!! He could become one of thé best parts of the entire Marvel movie franchise… give the man his own movie!
What bugged me a little bit in this movie were the smaller parts of Everett Ross and De La Fontaine… those didn’t really make a difference in the entire movie… Freeman should get a bigger part in the MCU… he can be a pivotal character but in WF, he was more like the comedic relief and it just didn’t fit…
So all in all not a bad movie, albeit a bit long… is it the best movie of Phase 4? No… that’s Spider-Man: No way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in my honest opinion…
