Synopsis:
Annie Porter, the woman who was held on a bus with a bomb attached to it that will go off if it slows down. She dated the cop who saved her but broke up with him because he was constantly putting his life in danger. She would then date a guy named Alex who is also a cop but told her that he does a mundane assignment. But she eventually learns that he works for the same unit that the other guy worked for and is also addicted to danger. She wants to break up with but he surprises her with a cruise. She agrees to go. And he’s planning to propose to her. But when he notices another passenger act peculiar, he can’t help but try to find out what’s up with him. He’s Geiger, a computer man who designed the ship’s systems, who was fired. He then takes over the ship’s systems and sets it on a course that will send it into a tanker. Alex tries to stop him.
Review:
What’s a chainsaw doing on a cruise ship? And if you know a girl is deaf, why speak to her while not facing her so she can read your lips?
Yes, I know… I started this review with a few (of the many) flaws in this movie… the series took a serious nosedive after that first one, admittedly one that was very hard to beat! So that begs the question, why even make it? Why even making a sequel that can only be flawed in so many ways?
Waste of time and money? Maybe so… but despite all its flaws, despite its huge setback and bad reviews, despite the fact that Keanu Reeves was no longer available and Jason Patric does not live up to his legacy… this is not the worst movie ever made!
The one factor saving this movie definitely is Sandra Bullock! Her acting in this one is believable enough to add some great scenes and funny bits to the movie. But of course she alone cannot save this movie! (Although that driver’s test in the beginning was funny!)
Dafoe who is cast as the villain makes me think he must be really a bad guy as he’s almost always cast as one… what is it about that?
Well, I rewatched this because of the fact that I rewatched the first Speed movie and I don’t like to leave things at that…
Oh little spoiler coming up!
When the oil tanker explodes, look for the little Twister reference (a cow flies from the wreckage)
Don’t watch this expecting a great sequel to an almost perfect action thriller… but watch it for its thrill ride and action scenes…
