Synopsis:

When a young Los Angeles police department, Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) officer called Jack Traven angers retired Atlanta police department bomb squad member Howard Payne, by foiling his attempt at taking hostages stuck in an elevator with a bomb, Payne in retaliation arms a bus with a bomb that will explode if it drops below 50 miles per hour. With the help of spunky passenger Annie, Jack and his partner Detective Harry Temple try to save the people on the bus before the bomb goes off, while also trying to figure out how Payne is monitoring them.

Review:

Cheesy nineties action movies, who doesn’t like them? And this is definitely and still, after almost thirty years, one of the best up there…

I almost can not believe this movie was released in 1994… I honestly think it holds up pretty nice. And I also think that these days action movies aren’t this good anymore… they may offer a lot of special effects but often lack in story or depth… and that is something action movies (and their directors and screenplay writers) in the nineties were better at! Think of Con Air, Gone in 60 Seconds, Armageddon, Face/Off… and many many others!

And it’s probably flawed in some points and there’ll probably be some haters…. But this movie offers so much… and when you think it’s over, there’s an encore… that’s the fun part about this movie!

I’m normally not a big fan of the late Dennis Hopper but he plays a mean villain in this one and it’s a role that fits him perfectly… Bullock has her own charm in this movie and of course dicy Keanu had that macho thing without overdoing it… (no hormone pumped up muscle boy like Van Damme or Stallone)!

So yeah, this is still a great movie and I think it will always be one of my favourites!
