Halloween Movie Marathon: ‘Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers’ (1989)

  • Director: Dominique Othenin-Girard
  • With: Donald Pleasence, Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell, Beau Starr, Wendy Kaplan, Tamara Glynn, Don Shanks
  • Duration: 1h37
  • Music by: Alan Howarth
  • My rating: 5/10

It’s one year later after the events of Halloween 4. Michael survives the shootings and on October 31st he returns with a vengeance. Lurking and stalking, Jamie, Rachel, and Rachel’s friends, Michael forms a plan to lure Jamie out of the children’s hospital where events lead up to the confrontation at the Myers house. Halloween 5 is a dark, thrill ride that will scare the heck out of you!

Urgh… this must be the worst Halloween movie I’ve seen so far… (although I still have Part 6 and Resurrection to rewatch so this might change along my marathon 🤣)

Unbelievable characters, bad scares, bullets don’t hurt Michael but a wooden plank does, even Dr. Loomis is starting to get redundant in the storyline…

I am no fan of this instalment in the series. Simply because it couldn’t hold my attention enough and I didn’t believe in the portrayal of the actors (Jamie being unable to talk really feels over the top)… and when someone disappears (gets killed by Michael) no one questions the absence of that character 🤷‍♂️ and Howarth’s score lacks the tension of any of the previous movie soundtracks imo…

Why did I still give it a 5 out of 10… there are some great kills in this movie… and the climatic scene with Michael and Jamie is pretty good…

But all in all… definitely not my favourite Halloween movie… I hold my breath for H6 😨
