Movie review ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’ (2021)

No escaping the dead in Raccoon City
  • Director: Johannes Roberts
  • With: Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Neal McDonough, Kaya Scodelario
  • Duration: 1h47
  • my rating: 7,5/10

I was so happy when I heard a new Resident Evil was going to be released, and especially because it would be more like the original games…

Well, now that I’ve seen it, I have to say: it is truly more true to the games I played when I was 18-19 years old! The same atmosphere and that same dark tone was present!

But it is not without its faults! While the first half of the movie was great (apart from some small errors or visual things that clearly were CGI – dog drooling, for instance) the second half felt rushed! The scenes in the mansion should have been even darker in tone, although they managed to call back the feeling when I played the first game in yonder days.

This is a good movie, not thé best in the series, but good! I’m glad someone finally had the balls to make the movie that was supposed to be made. (Although I still love the first one with Mila Jovovich as Alice in the Hive!)

I gave this a 7,5 out of 10 and I sure hope we get to see the sequel(s) based upon Code Veronica and the fourth game!

And in the meantime we’ll get the Netflix series soon! Something to look forward to!

Fan of the games: watch this one!
