Movie Marathon: ‘A Nightmare on Elmstreet 4: The Dream Master’ (1988) – rewatch

  • Director: Renny Harlin
  • With: Robert Englund, Rodney Eastman, Danny Hassel, Andras Jones, Tuesday Knight, Ken Sagoes, Lisa Wilcox
  • Duration: 1h33
  • Music by: Craig Safan
  • My rating: 7/10

Synopsis:

Following up the previous Nightmare film, the dream demon Freddy Krueger is resurrected from his apparent demise, and rapidly tracks down and kills all three of the surviving Elm Street kids. However, Kristen Parker (who has the ability to draw others into her dreams) wills her special ability to her new best friend Alice Johnson before her demise. Afterwards, she soon realizes that Freddy is taking advantage of that unknown power she now wields to pull a new group of teenage children into his foul domain. Can Alice embrace her new power to finally defeat Freddy or is it already too late?

Review:

Freddy found a new bunch of teenagers to terrorise. But to get to them, he first has to eliminate the survivors of the previous movie: Kristen, Joey and Kincaid.

Enter Alice, her brother Rick and their friends Debbie, Dan and Sheila aka a new bunch of souls for the burned-up-knives-for-hands killer…

With each victim Freddy kills, shy Alice changes more and more taking on their dream power. So Freddy’s got a thing coming his way, that’s for sure. If there is one person able to stop him, it has to be Alice!

With a few new original deaths and oneliners (“Wanna suck face?”) and a bit of Kafka, this is another great addition to the series. And you know it: “Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep!”
