Synopsis:

On the trail of a missing girl, an ex-cop comes across a secretive group attempting to summon a terrifying supernatural entity.

Review:

Based upon a graphic novel… this is a bit of a weird horror movie but not bad. Very atmospheric and very dark in tone, where one man seems to have to battle a cult that worships The Empty Man, an enigmatic being that possesses someone and leaves its trail in bodies, seemingly committing suicide in the name of The Empty Man…

An ex-cop is looking for a missing girl and all he has to go on is a text ‘The Empty Man made me do it’, written in blood on the wall/mirror. During his search he asks a friend of Amanda, the missing girl, what is going on and she tells him that a bunch of Amanda’s friends and herself called for the Empty Man by standing on a bridge, at night, each blowing in a bottle while thinking of The Empty Man. Since then weird stuff happened to them.

Because the first day you hear him, the second you see him and the third you feel him and he finds you…

During his search, James Lasombra (the ex-cop with a dark past) discovers Pontifex, a cult that worships the Empty Man… and from there on out, things start to spiral…

As I said, this is a cult horror movie with a good story and a very dark atmosphere which adds to the chilling vibe of the movie. But at times I wasn’t convinced of the acting and there were moments I was a bit lost in the story (how did he get to the cabin suddenly, what really happened with his wife and where he was at the time…)

So all in all a good movie, but not a perfect story.

Oh and the first twenty minutes are just great although at first you might think you’re watching a different movie. But all becomes clear at the end!
