At the Movies: April 2026

I had a few moments this month that I just had to put my books aside and watch a movie or two-three… I continued my Resident Evil rewatch (all that’s left are a few anime-animated RE movies and the reboot, Welcome to Raccoon City). Some new and a few old(er) movies and finally Dune: Part Two (finally ready to see Dune: Messiah).

1 Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Raccoon City is overrun with infected after the T-virus escaped the lab in the hive. A group of survivors need to get out of the city before it‘s completely changed into a zombie town. Lucky for them help is on the way.

2 Resident Evil: Extinction

After their escape from Raccoon City before it was destroyed, Alice and the survivors need to get through a world that’s been infected with the T-virus and affected by a global desaster due to the outbreak. And Alice discovers a secret about her new gained powers.

3 Resident Evil: Afterlife

Alice is back. After leaving the group behind (they left for Alaska, for Arcadia) Alice is out for revenge in the Tokyo facility of the Umbrella Corporation. When that fails she goes out looking for her friends in Alaska only to find an empty beach and Claire Redfield, under the influence of some weird device. They both end up in an infested Los Angeles, where they meet new survivors.

4 Resident Evil: Retribution

After the Arcadia gets bombed, Alice ends up in the hands of the Umbrella Corporation again. But she will get help from outside to escape the underground facility, one of the last remaining, together with Ada Wong. To escape she’ll have to cross some very familiar sites, people she knows (or thought she knew) and a little girl that just lost her mother. Alice is back!

5 Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

For one final time, Alice needs to fight the Umbrella Corporation and Dr. Isaacs, presumed dead but still alive and kicking. But knowing what Umbrella can do and what we’ve seen before, all is possible. Retconning the end of the previous film somehow but still offering some great action in this final chapter of Alice’s story.

6 Dune: Part Two

The even better second part of Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune, after a great first movie.Paul Artreidis and his pregnant mother go with the freman after they escaped the Harkonnen attack on Arrakeen, killing all Artreidis folk. Now Paul amasses an army and leess to fulfill a prophecy to become the Lisan al Gaib. On to Dune: Messiah next!

7 Trash

A shark movie… like a dozen came before it. Fun, but a bit rushed. A coastal town is flooded after a category 5 storm hits it. Not only the rising water poses a threat to the few survivors remaining in town though. Crawl but with sharks.

8 Anaconda (2025)

A group of friends want to remake the 1997 Anaconda movie. They travel to Brazil to film in the Amazon. All starts out great until they encounter a really real and huge anaconda. This starts out great (better than expected) but wanders into the absolute absurdity at the end, as expected.

9 I know what you did last Summer

Now this surprised me in a very good way, after I had read and heard bad reviews. A legacy-sequel as this is called because a few of the original cast of the ‘I know what you did last Summer’ movies (the first two! Let us not talk about the third movie and as I haven’t seen the tv-show yet I can’t comment on that -yet-) come back while a new killer is stalking some new people, after they did a stupid thing. Some very eerie but original kills, perfect for this genre, and some surprising twists (and even some surprising cameos).

10 Steve

Based upon the book ‘Shy’ by Max Porter, this movie, directed by Tim Mielants, changes the perspective from the novel from Shy to his teacher/principal Steve. Steve is the head teacher of a reformatory school for boys with social and behavioral issues. While struggling to keep his school afloat, he has to contain his own mental health and issues. Great movie, amazing acting but a bit chaotic sometimes.

11 Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Soni the Hedgehog is back. This time he will face a new strong(er) villain and will need Dr. Robotnik’s help. But how trustworthy is the doctor? Stakes are very high this time!

12 Resident Evil: Vendetta

A new strain of the virus that brings back the dead is unleasshed. and it’s up to Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy to work together and stop Glenn Aris to turn the world into a zombie infested one. They’ll need the help from dr. Chambers to stop him.

13 Residznt Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

A reboot of the movie franchise, going all the way back to the beginning and to Raccoon City where the dead start to rise.

14 The Conjuring: Last Rites

The Warrens face a new danger, one that comes from their past (and first case) and one that will endanger their daughter.

15 Ambulance

Robbers take an ambulance hostage, after their heist goes awry.

16 The Thing from another world (DNF)

Antarctica, a group of scientists discover a strange object in the ice. what does it hold?

17 Legion

Archangel Michael has come to earth to protect a woman and her unborn child in a diner, while angels attack the rest of humanity.
