Review:

Ethan Hunt (still played by Tom Cruise) needs to stop a rogue organisation called The Syndicate, who is responsible for a lot of mayhem and suffering in the world. Missing airplanes, bombings, gas attacks and so much more… At the same time a committee has disbanded the IMF and Brandt has to do everything possible to save his people before they are being transferred to work for the CIA. Hunt is being kidnapped by the Syndicate and interrogated but escapes with the help of the mysterious Ilsa Faust, MI6.

Hunt is almost all alone in his quest to stop the Syndicate, only helped by some of his loyal IMF colleagues such as Benji, Luther and Brandt. The loyalty of Faust is debatable. To stop the Syndicate Hunt needs to go to Vienna to stop an assassination attempt on the Austrian Chancellor, then to Morocco to get something that could stop Solomon Lane and his Syndicate only to discover that he actually helped the Syndicate get access to money to fund their anti-IMF cause!

The endgame is fought in London where they have to kidnap and save the British prime minister and to discover the truth of who created the Syndicate. It’s up to Hunt and his team to stop Lane and the Syndicate to get to the money and to create more chaos!

Another thrilling and exciting instalment in the M:I series. I honestly think this is (together with the third) the best one so far! There’s some great action with Cruise performing a lot of his stunts himself, there’s a lot of funny scenes (Simon Pegg provides a great comedic tone!) and we see a few recurring and new characters and some bad guys (Solomon Lane and there’s the Bone Doctor as well) that are relentless and ruthless which is great for a movie like this! Also The Syndicate was the original bad guy in the sixties tv-show so that’s a great callback to that as well!
