Synopsis:
Two years after the events of Scream, Sidney Prescott and Randy are attending Windsor college. They are trying to get on with their lives…Until a new Ghostface killing spree begins. With the help of Dewey and Gale, Sidney must find out who’s behind the murders. As the body count goes up, the list of suspects goes down.
Review:
“Hello Sydney, remember me?”
Ghostface
Yes, the Ghostface killer is back and this time he is stalking Windsor College, where Sydney and Randy are attending classes.
When the movie Stab is released, retelling the story of the killings from the first Scream movie (a little inside joke from Craven as a movie-within-a-movie), two college students are killed off during its premiere. Suddenly reality bites back as a new killer is on the loose and is targeting the survivors from the Woodsboro murders. Dewey and Gale are back as well and though they have some strive after their relationship ended badly (something to do with the book Gale Weather published) they will look for the killer together.
With each new victim and a new set of rules (thank you, Randy!) the killer comes closer to Sydney. Who can she trust? Because everyone’s a suspect! The new boyfriend (hello Billy Loomis!), the movie freak (then Randy would be a suspect as well), the goofy (ex-)detective or the attention seeking reporter? It could be anyone!
With some surprise twists and an expected unexpected death and a wrongfully accused being released, Sydney has a lot to worry about. But eventually the killer will come forward. But what is the motive?
I genuinely love this second instalment and the way it makes fun of sequels (does one actually surpass the original?) and how much these Scream movies generated a new love for slasher movies (Halloween H2O was a teen slasher due to this one, Urban Legend was even called out to be a rip off of these, I know and I still know what you did last Summer had success because of this franchise…)
It’s also great to see how the actors keep coming back for the sequels… Even though at one point they will have to stop… or not?
Billy and Stu’s legacy keeps on going and keeps on giving… and it continues in Scream 3!
