Review:
Why hadn’t I seen this movie earlier? Why did it take me almost seven years (!) to see this! I love musicals, so I don’t understand it…
This was a great movie! The chemistry between Stone and Gosling is amazing and feels real (almost as if they were a real couple at the time)! I know they are really good friends and it just shows, the way they both act together is so real, so genuine, so lovingly!
And the music of this movie… apart from the fact that there’s these piano themes I adore (I love piano music) and there’s jazz (not the chaotic kind) and then there’s the love theme between both actors: ‘City of stars’ ♥️
I cannot express my love for this movie by just words… I keep singing that song and I keep feeling this sense of love and adoration… this movie left an impression on me!
And then there’s the love for Hollywood but also its struggles… A lot of people watch a movie and think: I want to act as well… but the magic behind the scenes is often just that, a hint of magic… as we see Mia (Emma Stone) struggle with getting parts for movies and tv-series and at the same time Sebastien (Gosling) is struggling to find a gig on his piano where he can play his music… Hollywood has broken more dreams than it the wishes it granted!
With the grandeur of musicals of yonder days, Hollywood faces like Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn or Rita Hayworth… this movie is a throwback to when the bug names made these kind of movies! And I’m loving it!
