Synopsis:

In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman believe her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find that they just might have prepared for the wrong mission.

Review:

A new Emmerich disaster movie, that’s either a hit or a huge miss…. Unfortunately in this case it’s rather a miss. Rehashing elements from his previous movies such as Independence Day: Resurgence and 2012 this movie lacks the originality of a good script. And on top of that it had very bad acting (shame on you Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson) and an over the top exaggerated story… and the movie is lost in its genre: is it a disaster movie or a science fiction movie?

But… and that’s something I would like to emphasise… even though this movie is bad in so many aspects, it’s also good in many others aspects. Special Effects are incredible, there’s a good score by Kloser and Wander and John Bradley portrays a wonderful conspiracy theorist.

There’s one thing in this movie (Emmerich did the same in ID: Resurgence) my OCD does not like: an open end and no sequel on the horizon. 😩

I know a lot of people have issues with Emmerich’s movies, that it has a lot of flaws and is generally over the top… and I admit, this is his worst movie to date, but keep in mind he makes movies to entertain, not to educate or to give a message! (Although hidden within we do get the message that we shouldn’t mess with A.I. And take care of our little blue planet)

Sit back and enjoy the ride, for what it is… a movie about the moon crashing Earth and a bunch of astronauts (and a neurotic conspiracy theorist) doing all they can to save the planet!
