Review:

The only Paranormal Activity movie that was released in 3-D at the time. Unfortunate I don’t have a 3-D tv anymore so had to (re)watch it in 2-D.

A husband, Ryan, his wife, Emily, their daughter Leila and live in a house in California they bought recently. Ryan’s brother, Mike, comes and live with them for a few weeks after a breakup. Together with a friend of the family, Skyler, they discover that Leila starts talking to an invisible being. At the same time Ryan and Mike discover a special camera and some old videotapes of a young Chris and Kristi, the girls from PA3 – and later the family being haunted by the demon that took away the baby Hunter.

On the tapes they see Kristi being taught some weird stuff and find a connection to the house where Ryan and his family currently lives. Also Kristi sees things on the tape that are present in Ryan and Emily’s house, even responding to a sneeze by Leila. And then there’s the camera that seems to show more than the normal stuff. It seems to pick up another dimension.

Once the set up the camera weird things are seen in the house. A black being pops up several times, Leila talks to it and seems to connect with it somehow. All this frightens the family until everything becomes more and more intense. It’s clear something is out for the little girl. Ryan and Emily decide to ask a priest for help. And this is something they shouldn’t have done!

After a few weaker instalments in the series this picks up the pace a little bit again and adds to the scariness of the Paranormal Activity lore by actually showing the presence and its power. I think this is one of the best of the entire series and I honestly believe they should have stopped here (or continued the storyline if they really needed to make another sequel) but instead they mad Next of Kin which has nothing to do with the rest of the series (it’s more a spinoff or a retelling, never a good idea!).

If you want the full experience, watch this in the dark in 3-D. Scary as hell!
