Review:
This one issue story is a direct sequel to the three issue ‘Bloodbath’ storyline, immediately picking up where they left that story.
The only two survivors of the bloodbath are on a collision course to an unknown faith. But a military truck stands in the way and Violet is the only survivor, but also ‘the one that got away’ from the “Curse of Crystal Lake”. So it won’t be long before Jason Voorhees finds his way to the camp where Violet is taken hostage, to lure him so the organization can finally get what they want from the unkillable and unstoppable Voorhees.
But Jason rampages through the camp, just when a board meeting of the Trent Company is happening. So it won’t be long before everything is destroyed and everyone is killed in the most gruesome ways. Only Violet seems to be able to escape… or not?
Just like ‘Bloodbath’ this is pretty average storytelling and the artwork is only best when Jason gets his kill mood going. But at times it’s all a bit chaotic and unclear at what and who or how someone is killed. It’s typical and classic Friday the 13th with just that much more gore, there where the movies are/were limited to their special effects, the kills in the comics are way more elaborate and of course bloodier with limbs flying around all over the place.
It feels like Jason is empowered by each kill. He will need that power because something stronger and more evil is on its way and a battle between two evils means trouble!
When I bought these I was at least twenty years younger and well I guess my experience has changed with these comics. In a way they reflect my feelings about the movies: campy, bloody and sometimes dark with way too many naked women. (I don’t mind a woman naked but sometimes I really think it feels to gratuitous. Besides, those aren’t exactly realistic proportions but maybe that’s what most comic readers want, I guess)
I do love the ‘gore’ cover (Avatar Press always had various covers made for the same comic: one that was just a general issue cover, a wraparound cover that covered front and back, a gore cover and a terror cover) but I think not everyone will appreciate the art and the bloody drawing on the front of it.
These graphic novels are for mature readers only! So no children allowed!!
