Review:

Taking over the franchise from Paramount Pictures, New Line Cinema decided to discard all the sequels that were ever made and went for a whole new direction in the franchise.

An FBI task force lure Jason and kill him by ripping him into a thousand pieces. Jason’s body is taken to the coroner’s office where his soul transfers into that of the coroner, starting a whole new rampage of killings. And Jason has a mission.

Apparently Jason has a halfsister who still lives at Crystal Lake. Her daughter and granddaughter are on their way to Diane Kimble. But Jason gets his revenge.

A bounty hunter is on the prowl for a personal vendetta he has with Jason Voorhees. He knows all about the origins of Jason’s evil and how to stop it. If he can’t be stopped he will kill every last living relative and will be unstoppable forever.

As with Part V: A new Beginning, this is one of my least favourite entries in the franchise but the way the makers deviated too much from the earlier movies and changed the story too much just didn’t sit well with me. And the storyline with the bounty hunter just didn’t match (also because his background story was cut mostly hence why it felt unnecessary to have him there).

This movie is full with nods other horror movie franchises such as A Nightmare on Elmstreet (the glove at the end, meant to lead into a Freddy vs Jason movie), Evil Dead (Necronomicon and the dagger) and Creepshow (the crate in the cellar). These nods are fun to look for and are an extra plus for this movie (my rating could have been even less but these little things made up for it)

And for those who know and have seen the entire franchise already know that the next movie is Jason X but that one is set in a far future. In 2003 the Freddy vs Jason movie finally got made and released. The story in that movie is set directly after this movie and then, chronologically, it’s Jason X!
