Review:
Jason Voorhees is back! When a couple awaken the killer accidentally they become the first victims of a new killing spree by Jason. He is still out for revenge for those who were responsible for him drowning when he was a kid and for his mother’s death. The last group of teenagers he targets now are docking a cruise to New York. Before they realise it, Jason has boarded the ship and starts his mayhem amongst those onboard.
The survivors of the ship end up in downtown New York, where Jason will end up following and hunting them. From the streets of the Big Apple to the subway and in diners. Jason is unstoppable!

The final Friday the 13th movie that was distributed by Paramount Pictures. The next movie was taken over and distributed by New Line Cinema (as were Jason X and the reboot Friday the 13th), as well as the long awaited Freddy (Krueger) vs Jason movie, now that both franchises are with the same distributor)
Speaking of A Nightmare on Elmstreet, the last three movies in this franchise take quite some elements from that franchise, especially the supernatural resurgence of Jason every time. Freddy Krueger has a similar trajectory of popping up from the grave, often because of unwilling dreamers. (See those movies to know what I mean)
The next one in the series will pay homage to a few other franchises, by the way. More on that when I review that movie!
Honestly, even though this is definitely not my most favourite movie in the franchise (it’s a bit chaotic and well as with all the instalments there are suite some mistakes in the story), I do love how the makers decided to give Jason a bigger city to start his rampage. Some silly scenes (the lifting of the mask in front of the tugs) and some darker locations made me lower the rating as well as the fact that only the third act was in Manhattan. As far as I’m concerned they should have brought Jason sooner to the big city!
This movie serves as a closing chapter in a series, only to start a new chapter with a new movie distributor New Line Cinema. But even so this is the second time Kane Hodder plays the part of Jason Voorhees, and will play the part two more times after this chapter.
