Review:
This is some serious spooky sh*t! I don’t get scared easily but somehow this movie got me spooked. And on rewatching it after all these years, the scary part does not get any less scary!
When Katie and Micah move in their new house, something came with them. At first it’s only keys that are displaced, next a chandelier starts to shake during the night. Micah decides to start filming everything, so he can document it all afterwards.
They invite a psychic, Frederichs. Katie tells a story of when she was a kid, she always felt a presence, she and her sister saw it both. And then their house burnt down. Frederichs says this doesn’t sound like a haunting but more like a demonic presence that latched unto Katie. He can’t help them but a demonologist would be able to help. But neither Katie nor Micah contact the man.
And then things start to get worse. Loud bangs and sounds, old burnt pictures are found, footsteps are heard and shadows become more apparent.
During the hour and a half this movie lasts, you’ll be on the edge of your seat and maybe sometimes not wanting to watch. The funny thing about it though is that it’s a low budget movie and everything that happens in the house of Katie and Micah is suggestive and it’s all about shadow play, turning lights on and off, noises heard and little things like the chandelier and something with an Ouija board as well…
This movie started a new series, it even got a Japanese sequel that will be my next movie. I have never seen it before so I’m curious what they did with this haunting. But if it’s a little bit like other Asian horror movies, it can be a good one as well. We’ll see!
