Review:
“There will be no Leftovers!”
After a disastrous ‘Black Friday’ sale in the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts killing some of the townfolks and wounding others, Thanksgiving celebrations will never be the same again. Although the state of Massachusetts lives for this holiday! And now they will die for it as well!
One year later, the Holiday Season is back but a lot of memories of last year are still too fresh. For one of them, so fresh it turns them into a killer! With the mask and costume of Thomas Carver this killer hides among the celebrations and kills those responsible for the chaos of the year before, one by one!
With some of the most original death scenes and an unexpected killer this movie has come high on my ‘Slasher Movie’ top ten! Paying tribute to the genre, especially the movies from the seventies and eighties, this is one killer of a movie!
Eli Roth definitely had some badly rated movies before but I think I’m not the only one saying this might be among his best movies made. It adds another Holiday to the slasher genre (everybody thinks Halloween and Christmas are perfect well I guess now we can all agree that you’ll never eat a stuffed turkey without thinking of this movie again!)
As a European we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving but Black Friday has seeped through to this continent and although we do not have those scenes where people are drumming at the door to get their hands first on a huge sale (the last tv’s, waffle irons… you name it) we do see those images often on tv.
And this movie is thé perfect comment on that consumerism and the selfishness of people who are to be ‘thankful’ but at the same time they would kill to get their hands on a silly thing they probably don’t even need!
Paying tribute to the slasher movie scene but bringing it to this day and age with its modern technology (whatsapp, live streaming…), Thanksgiving is a whole new take on the genre. you could say, Scream did it first… But this is quite different from the Scream movies, due to the original killings! (Ghostface mainly uses his knife… Carver is pretty inventive and uses whatever he gets his hands on and sometimes even thinks ahead…)
Move over Ghostface, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Freddy and Jason… because here is Carver! And he’s not done yet it appears, because a second Thanksgiving movie is on its way already!

I must admit, this is truly a new favourite of mine! I was already a big fan of Roth’s movies (especially Hostel 1 & 2 and The Green Inferno) but this tops those!
