Synopsis:
Art student Will meets introvert Richard, whose terrifying works of art begin to have a deeply disturbing effect on Will’s sense of reality.
Review:
Based upon a story by H.P. Lovecraft, this tale tells the story of an art student, Will, who meets a very timid introverted fellow student whose art is controversial and has a strange effect on Will. The painting seems to come alive and it never lets go of him ever since.
Years later, Will is married and has a son, Richard Pickman comes back into his life. Just when Will thought he was free of his influence and that of his art, it is back! And this time it spreads through his entire family and the painting he never thought to see again is ruining his life.
This episode was very eerie but also very slow in pace. Apart from Crispin Glover as Pickman I didn’t really believe in the horror in this story. Until the very end… that one scene in the kitchen and the basement of Pickman’s house are what saved the entire episode for me.
A few more episodes await me in this show. So far I’m glad I watched it but I’m not gonna lie, I am a bit underwhelmed by the whole, to be honest. They are good episodes but the aren’t great. Del Toro has given us better things in the horror department. Or I’m used to too much already… 🤷
