Review:
The sixth movie in the franchise is here and I finally got to see it. While doing my little Scream-a-thon it was announced that a seventh movie is on the way. But due to other commitments the directors of Scream (5) and Scream VI won’t be returning. However, Happy Death Day, Happy Death Day 2U and Freaky director Christopher Landon will take the director’s seat for the seventh instalment.
Well, this was a brutal… nay, a savage Ghostface killer! Right in the middle of New York!
So yes I love this movie. It surprises, it misleads and yet… I knew from the start who was Ghostface. I won’t spoil it! Neither has it spoiled my love for the movie. It only got me more invested because I wanted to know for sure if I was right.
The setting of New York works perfectly fine for this movie. And I love how they watch Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason takes Manhattan as an inside joke! (The use of the roman numerals might be a little reference to that as well)
There’s the return of Kirby as well! And she still rocks the screen! Maybe she’s the new Dewey? (Don’t tell Gale!)
I didn’t really miss Campbell’s character Sidney to be honest. Maybe her part has been played out? Or maybe she could come back for part VII?
Mindy (aka new Randy) offers a new set of rules as well… no longer should we say: “It’s a sequel of a requel!” No this time it has become a franchise, with legacy characters, new and old characters and everyone’s a suspect and a potential victim!
Personal favourite scenes:
- 1. Opening scene
- 2. Gale at home
- 3. The shrine discovery
- 4. The reveal
- 5. Subway scene
- 6. The psych in pj’s
- 7. Ladder scene
Not in that order, just in general!
This was another great addition to the franchise (oh dear, now I said it myself) and I can not wait for more! Bring it on, Landon! Scream VII! (Maybe Stu Macher really isn’t dead and will make a reappearance?)
