Synopsis:
Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible, inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea, but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.
Review:
When does the dream stop and when does reality begin?
Inception is one of my top three ultimate favourite movies of all time! Hence why I love to rewatch it and this time I finally got my boyfriend to watch it with me! Yaay!
As you may have noticed by the title of this review, I plan on rewatching the Nolan movies (not in the order of release but I don’t think that’s necessary)!
You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling!
Eames
With an absolute fantastic cast this movie just profits from all that talent! There’s DiCaprio who is one of my favourite actors who, in my opinion, has never been in a bad movie, just because he is in it! Then there’s Tom Hardy who’s high up my favourites list as well as Cillian Murphy (who is now in Nolan’s latest movie Oppenheimer again). Then there’s French actress Marion Cottillard who is an absolute gem, a bit underrated to be honest! She deserves more screentime in big movies! I’m glad Nolan worked with her again in The Dark Knight rises. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt just looks stunning in Inception. And of course there’s Elliott (here he was still Ellen) Page who is such a great actor who also needs more roles in bigger titles! He’s so good in these kind of character roles! That’s Nolan’s strength, he finds the best actors for the roles he writes!
You’re waiting for a train. A train that’ll take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can’t know for sure. Yet it doesn’t matter. Because you’ll be together!
Mal & Cobb
This movie is an absolute stunner! It’s entertaining, smart and makes you wonder at all times… even at the end of the movie, you’re guessing… are they in reality or is that still a dream? The concept of dream-within-a-dream is so innovating and well constructed… it’s a movie you need to watch with attention (so you don’t loose your thread in the story because it can be a bit complicating) but it’s up to you to draw a conclusion. Whether it’s the right one? 🤷♂️
Nolan used the elements we all know from dreaming (constructing your own dreamworld that’s similar to reality but somehow different from it; not knowing where your dream started exactly; the feeling of falling; waking up and not knowing for sure whether you’re awake or what happened in your dream wasn’t actually real…) and then wrote it in a paradoxale kind of story! And of course, the labyrinthine story elements like M.C. Eshers’ world are just fantastic!
And what I live about Nolan is his use of practical effects over CGI! (That hallway scene 🫶)
I can say without a doubt that Nolan is my number one director of all time. I will never miss a movie by the Master of Movies! (Although I have never seen Following as it isn’t available in Belgium anywhere, so if anyone can help me find a copy, let me know!)
I am very curious about Oppenheimer as well. Heard great things so guess I’ll have to go to the movie theatre soon! 😁
Oh, and one more thing: the music from Hans Zimmer is epic! I think its soundtrack is, along with those from the Jurassic Park movies and Titanic soundtracks, one of the most listened to score I put on! Soooo good!
