Synopsis:
As an unstoppable force of nature destroys the awkward reunion of two sisters, a strange book emerges. Now, single mum Ellie’s Los Angeles apartment complex becomes part of the mysterious tome’s dark history, unearthing its ancient, blood-curdling secrets. But the unimaginable menace that has emerged now demands blood. And as possession opens the gates to a nightmarish dimension of evil wonders and pain, the shattered family must answer a crucial question. What would you do if mummy wanted to kill you?
Review:
Evil has found a new location, right in the heart of an apartment building! One family is about to witness mommy’s love like never before!
The movie has one of the best starts in the entire franchise and actually starts where the movie ends!
Three friends are in a cabin somewhere in the woods (how recognisable) when one of them becomes possessed by a demon and kills off the others. (That title and the deadite rising from the lake: perfection!)
Then we go back a day and see Beth realising she’s pregnant and she decides to visit her sister Ellie to ask her for help. Ellie’s husband just broke up with her and left her with their three kids. She lives in a high-rise but has to leave the apartment. When an earthquake opens up a hole in the basement parking, the three kids discover a book and some old records. Danny, one of the kids, can’t resist and opens the book and plays some if the records, on which an incantation is read aloud. This will set events in motion that are deadlier than expected. Suddenly family is no longer a safe place!
“Mommy’s with the maggots now!”
Deadite Ellie
I love what they did here, opening up the lore and the world of Evil Dead by bringing it to the city and stating that there are ‘Three Books of the Dead!” (The one Ash finds, the one Eric reads from in Evil Dead 2013 and the one Danny finds in this movie)
Ash has no role in this one, neither has Sam Raimi (apart maybe from production credits) but it does open up more possibilities for future instalments. What if they bring the three books together?
The only thing remaining to watch are the three seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead series! But I sure hope they will takes this franchise further than they already did now, maybe even bring back Ash in the movies at some point! I’m a fan!!!
Kanda, estrata, kandos. Turus, indoctus. Skarindus, kanda, amantos, kanda!
Incantation
