Synopsis:
Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham, is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.
Review: (beware for spoilers!)
I guess it’s just typical that when most people don’t like a movie I tend to love it… same with this Halloween Ends. So yes, very unpopular opinion.
But of course it has issues. It takes a long time before we get that true ‘Halloween’ feeling in the movie. It does not have that ‘stalkery’ vibe from the original and there’s not enough Michael Myers.
But… apart from that…
This movie feels like a tribute to John Carpenter and his movies, especially Christine! So basically, Corey is Arnie, Allyson is Leigh, Laurie is Dennis and Michael is Christine! Bear with me here!
Corey is the nerdish kid (he even looks like Arnie and has the same last name!) that has issues with his parents (bossy mom and dad has no say in the decisions) so he is seduced by the strength of Michael, who becomes his mentor. Like Arnie Corey changes attitude and look and he becomes this completely different kid who is out for revenge for the ones that hurt him.
Allyson is his girlfriend, wedged between her love for Corey and his adoration for Michael… like Leigh was between the car and Arnie!
Michael serves as the antagonistic power that influences Cory, much like Christine did with Arnie…
And Laurie, she’s the only thing that can come between her daughter, Corey and Michael! And in an ultimate showdown she and Allyson have to stop Michael for good, after he kills Corey… again: like Christine who killed off Arnie and then went for the ultimate showdown with Dennis and Leigh… and like Christine, Michael does not easily stop from trying to kill them!
There are even some elements taken from Christine that are similar in other ways: the tow truck being used to kill one of the characters (same vantage point, lighting and the way she runs away is similar to Buddy’s death) and the way they get rid of Michael’s body… also similar!

So, as a tribute to that movie… this works out perfectly fine!
But it is a Halloween movie and a lot of people take offence that it just isn’t par with the previous two instalments and changes tone so suddenly, I think. Although there are enough references to the original Halloween (Laurie’s outfit in the end, her hiding in the closet) and to this trilogy (Michael learns fast because when Laurie attacks him with the needle, he is not having it this time!)
Another thing I loved about this movie is the eighties vibe and feel it shows. The music, the scenes where Allyson and Corey are on the bike and on top of the radio station (with the neon lights)… they could all be taken from eighties movies! And I love it for this!
I don’t see all the negative fuss for this movie. Honestly, people should get their heads out of their asses and just enjoy this movie… Halloween: Resurrection was atrocious… this one was great! There, I said it!
